3D Plates
What is a 3D Number Plate?
These plates feature raised gel resin characters that give your registration a smooth, glossy, domed finish. They’re sleek, modern, and eye-catching, and road-compliant (if you follow the rules).
Are 3D Number Plates Legal?
Yes, 3D number plates are completely road-legal in the UK, as long as they meet the DVLA’s requirements.
That means:
- The correct Charles Wright font is used
- Letter spacing and margins follow legal measurements
- The plate has a reflective white (front) and yellow (rear) background
- No tinted or coloured overlays are used
- The supplier name and BS AU 145e mark are displayed
All of our 3D plates are built to meet those exact standards, so you can fit them to your car or bike.
It’s worth noting that some sellers offer 3D plates that don’t comply, for example, with stretched fonts, unusual spacing, or non-reflective materials. Those would fail an MOT and could earn you a fine.
How We Create Your 3D Number Plates
At Great Plates, quality is built into every step of our process. Here’s what sets our 3D plates apart:
- Hand-finished plates: Each plate is carefully made and aligned by hand for perfect spacing and a flawless finish.
- Premium gel resin: We use high-grade polyurethane gel to create smooth, raised letters that hold their shine and shape.
- Superior print quality: Our plates are printed using commercial-grade technology for sharper colours, cleaner contrast, and a professional finish.
- Built to last: Whether you choose our eco-friendly or acrylic base, your plate will help resist fading, cracking, and weather damage.
- Customisation options: Add borders, badges, or slogans with our Plate Builder (just note, some extras are only available for show plates).
And because we’re based in Jersey, you won’t need to provide any documentation to order your 3D number plate. Just design, order, and you’re good to go.
